My first ever test knit

As I am rather inexperienced in pattern reading I decided to learn new skills and did test knit for Azure mini cardigan, in Ravelry Free Pattern Testers group. These are the pictures of finished garment I did. In pink, of course.

Cabled vest with no hood

My first Etsy custom order was this cabled vest. I wish I would have done garter edging at the bottom a bit differently but otherwise quite satisfied with the result. Hope the customer likes it too.

I used Bendigo Woolen Mills 8ply Luxury in Purple Storm, 4.5mm needles.

Cabled top with yoke in short rows

My first published pattern called Raspberry Wonder Cabled Top. It is a free pattern, available @ Ravelry here. I will be more than happy to receive feedback about this pattern, you are welcome to send an e-mail to ferbyscorner [at] gmail [dot] com

This was a project to learn short rows technique. I knew the technique but had never really used it.

Started with casting on 32 stitches that would be the length of yoke. I knitted 3 cables one bigger than another and after first few rows started shaping it. Short rows are worked just after each cable. The biggest cable thus has three times more rows than the smallest inside cable. Posting some work in the progress photos.

Action shot of 4 yo in her top length cabled Raspberry top. Tunic length can be seen in the other post here.

Warm winter hat

That's what I made yesterday using part of the new yarn. Planning to knit matching fingerless mitts and scarf to keep little girl warm from all sides :)

I used Judy's Magic Cast on. Then knitted in stockinette in the round until hat measured almost the length I wanted. Cabled edge is knitted separately and joined with the body of the hat by knitting body stitch together with the last stitch of the cabled edge. I really should have used Kitchener stitch to join back seam of cable edge. I sewed it and result is not as neat as could be. Or maybe it's just my obsession with details.

Weekend goodies

Visiting Canberra's Old Bus Depot markets on Wool day didn't eat up that much of my funds as I thought it might. It was nice day out and lots of beautiful hand dyed yarns to admire. I have two beautiful merino and merino silk blend hanks in my stash now. Probably will make some hats and fingerless mitts of those.

A perfect weekend...

...begins with a perfect weekend breakfast. I have made these scones couple a times before and the outcome was always fabulous.

I got the recipe from Anita's blog but she refers to the original recipe at Julia's site. It's so easy I could as well quickly post English version here:

450g self raising flour
1 teaspoon salt
110g cold butter
50g sugar
450g apples (5-7 pieces, I usually add less)

1/2 cup milk

1. Cut butter in small pieces.
Mix with flour, sugar and salt. Blend a little until coarse crumbs are forming.

2. Grate half of apples, chop the other half into small pieces. Mix into flour.
3. Add milk until dough is soft and slightly contagious. Depending on how juicy apples you have add more milk if necessary.

4. On a lightly floured surface roll the dough and make circles approx 5cm big. Or cut larger circle into triangles. Transfer to plate. Brush the top with a little bit of milk.
5. Cook about 20-25 minutes @ 190 C
Serve with raspberry or strawberry jam and whipped cream

Twirly cotton summer dress

A little bit too late for this summer but finally finished this cotton dress. It was quite boring and time consuming project knit in the round in stockinette stitch. I used it for company knitting or on road trips because it required almost no attention. There were more than 400 stitches in final rounds. Nevertheless little girl loves it because it twirls beautifully. And that's all that matters :)

Lovely cotton yarn from Bendigo Wooden Mills in colour Honeydew.

Little cabled tunic

Rather quick tunic in short rows and cables made with lovely Sublime Soya Cotton yarn. I love the feeling of that yarn and it is really nice to knit with. The finished garment is extremely soft and drapey. Unfortunately the yarn is discontinued.
